# Device Management
Synchronise data in real time
Both Android and biometric devices synchronise data in real time when connected to the internet. If a device loses connection, it will still collect information, but the data will only synchronise to the cloud once the internet connection is restored.

When processing payroll at the end of the month, it is critical to ensure that all devices are connected to the internet and have synchronised all relevant information for the payment period.

## Offline Clocking and Timestamps
Every clock is stamped **on the device, at the moment the employee clocks** — not when the data reaches AllWage. If a device is offline, its clock records wait on the device and upload once the connection is restored, but the clock times inside them do not change. A record that syncs a day later still carries the exact time the employee clocked.
All hours, overtime and Time & Attendance calculations use this clock time. The time a record synced is stored separately and is never used in any calculation, so a late sync can never move a clock into the evening or change anyone's hours.
You can see both times side by side. In [**Data Review / Clocks**](https://app.allwage.com/#/review/employee/clock), enable the "**Sync Date**" column using the column picker. The **Date** column shows when the employee clocked; the **Sync Date** column shows when that record reached AllWage. A large gap between the two simply means the device was offline in between.

**A clock that arrived late is not a late clock.** If recorded times genuinely look wrong, the cause is almost always the device's own clock — the timestamp comes from the device at the moment of clocking, so a device with the wrong time records the wrong clock times. Approved locked devices supplied by Bio3G keep their time automatically from the network, and employees in the field cannot change it. ## Device Status
To view the status of each device, navigate to [**Manage > Devices**](https://app.allwage.com/#/system/devices). Here, you can customize and view the sync status of each device connected to your site.

## Archived Devices
Each device shows one of three statuses: **Online**, **Offline** or **Archived**.
Archiving a device only stops AllWage from checking whether it is online. An archived device is left out of the online devices count on the Time & Attendance dashboard, so it is never flagged as offline. This is useful for a device that is switched off, in storage or kept as a spare.

**Archiving does not stop a device from sending clocks.** Clocks recorded on an archived device still come through and are processed as normal, and nothing is deleted. If clocks from a device are missing, archiving is not the cause. Check that the device is switched on and connected to the internet.

### Archive or Restore a Device
1. Navigate to [**Manage > Devices**](https://app.allwage.com/#/system/devices) and click on the device.
2. Turn **Offline alerts** off to archive the device, or back on to restore it.
### Devices Restored Automatically
When a new clock from an archived biometric device reaches AllWage, the device is set back to **Active** straight away. You don't need to restore it by hand.
### Biometric Devices Archived Automatically
Every hour, AllWage checks which biometric devices Bio3G has linked to your profile. If a device is no longer on that list, AllWage archives it automatically. This happens, for example, when the device was removed from your profile, or moved to another one, on Bio3G's side.
## Change Device Details
To change the name and description of a device or view its latest location, navigate to [**Manage > Devices**](https://app.allwage.com/#/system/devices).

Please note that only the location of Android devices is tracked; biometric devices do not have location data.

1. Click on the device in the table.
2. In the **Info** tab, you can edit the following:
* **Name**: Change the name of the device to something descriptive to easily identify it in the field.
* **Description**: Add any additional information you want to associate with this device.
* **Mobile Number**: If the device has a managed SIM card, the number will be added here. This field is used to reference the correct SIM card when troubleshooting connectivity issues. Please do not change the mobile number of devices with SIM cards managed by us.
3. In the **Location** tab, you can view the last known location of the device. This is only applicable to Android devices where permissions were granted to track location updates.
## Remove a Device
To remove a device, navigate to [**Manage > Devices**](https://app.allwage.com/#/system/devices). When deleting a device, it will only be removed from the list; no data captured on the device will be deleted. You can always add the device again in the future.

It is good practice to remove all devices that are not in operation, as this makes it easier to identify any sync issues.

1. Click on the device in the table.
2. Select the **Delete** option.
## Adding a New Device
To add a new device, navigate to [**Manage > Devices**](https://app.allwage.com/#/system/devices). Currently, you can only add Android devices from this page. To add a new biometric device, please refer to the hardware buying guide on how to acquire new biometric hardware.

Click on "**Add Android Device" button** and follow the on-screen prompts:

If you search for the AllWage app on the Google Play Store and no results appear, it indicates that your Android device is not compatible with the application. Ensure that your device supports NFC (Near Field Communication).
